Why you shouldn't use UV-curing nail glue with Press Ons
Share
Press-on nails are the perfect solution for many: easy to apply, gentle on the natural nail, and removable if necessary. However, there are many myths surrounding nail glue – one in particular: that UV-curing nail glue is "better" or "longer-lasting." Here's why you should definitely stay away from it.
1. Risk of allergies due to incomplete curing
Press-ons with pre-made, opaque designs, often with embellishments, glitter, or colors, barely transmit UV light. This means that if you use UV-curing nail glue under a press-on, it won't fully cure—even with the best lamp.
What happens then?
The adhesive remains partially reactive, meaning uncured ingredients remain on your nail and skin – and can trigger severe, sometimes irreversible allergic reactions. These allergies can last a lifetime and make any future nail treatment – whether gel, shellac, or acrylic – impossible.
💡Conclusion: UV glue under press ons = risk to your health.
2. UV glue is not intended for press-ons
Such adhesives are intended for professional gel nail art—that is, for nails that are permanently worn and can be properly cured under UV/LED. Press-ons, on the other hand, are intended for flexible, temporary wear—and this requires specially formulated adhesives.
3. Damage to the natural nail during removal
UV adhesive adheres extremely strongly. Removing press-ons applied with UV adhesive often damages the natural nail. The result: cracks, split ends, and pain—exactly what you're trying to avoid with press-ons.
4. No easy & gentle removal possible
One of the biggest advantages of press-ons is their gentle removal, for example with soak-off remover or warm water. UV glue, on the other hand, usually has to be removed with acetone or files – which severely weakens your nails and can destroy their protective layer.
5. Error-prone application
UV adhesive requires a great deal of expertise: the right amount, correct positioning, complete curing – all of this is almost impossible to control with press-ons. The result: lifts, air pockets, skin irritations, or even allergies.
